I’ve been delving way back into the days of yester-year to bring you our full review and common-sense parent’s guide for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. This 2026 take happens to cover my favourite game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise – and one of the very first videos we made for the channel, as well.

The Basics – What is Black Flag Resynced About?
Resynced takes the original Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag and brings it properly up to date. It includes all of the parts of the original which I loved, giving it a polish, fixing up some mechanics and removing the “modern day” elements, as well.
With the Abstergo sections relegated to a small number of optional side quests, players can get straight into the important meat of the game – Edward Kenway’s journey. Black Flag Resynced includes all of the high-seas combat, close up assassinations and side quests that we loved in the original release, with a huge visual overhaul and vast improvement in some areas (like the fleet management area).
Those who have played the original Assassin’s Creed IV like me are in for a good time, but if you never played the original, now is the perfect time to jump into a solid remake of what might be one of the greatest games ever made.

Is Black Flag Resynced Safe for Kids?
Rating: Adults Only.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is rated by PEGI at 18 and above and by the ESRB at a Mature 17+. This is all for good reason as well, with Black Flag Resynced giving off true Life of Piracy vibes in nearly every area. Language, violence and blood, discrimination, alcohol, and gambling are all in here.
With the nature of the Assassin’s Creed franchise mixed with one of the bloodiest professions in history, Black Flag Resynced’s hand-to-hand combat is a bloody affair whether you’re in the melee or assassinating silently. For many reasons, this is one we’re not letting our Micro-Bandits get involved with.

The Run Down
Our Five-Point Quality Check for Black Flag Resynced
Gameplay – 10/10: Resynced brings back all of the elements I loved with the original Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag. The traditional Assassin’s Creed gameplay mixed with intense ship battles and plenty of things to do. Controls are smooth and responsive and I’ve not found anything to fault the gameplay on.
Visuals – 8/10: There are a couple of rough edges here and there – mostly with hair and fur. However, the majority of the time (and especially when out on the ocean waves) I’ve been full on gawping at beautiful islands, and great visual effects as they bring this on up to date and include a nice photo mode to help you capture it.
Audio – 10/10: The voice acting is great. Audio cues, effects and overall score are great. But (you know what I’m going to say) the real winners here are the shanties. A fantastic audio effort and again one I’ve been unable to find any fault with.
Narrative – 9/10: The narrative can be a little slow at times, for my liking, and I don’t love that some of the gameplay (like diving bells) takes a little while to get to. Overall, though, while it’s the same story we loved before, it’s been quite a pleasure to go through it again in Resynced.
Replay – 9/10: There are more side quests, collectables and places to explore than you can shake a spyglass at, here. An online co-op would work wonders and I’d love to see it, but as it stands the only difficulty is choosing what you want to do out of the plethora of options

The Verdict
Is Black Flag Resynced Worth Grabbing?
Overall, our Pixel Bandits’ Row Boy’s Row score for Black Flag Resynced is a hearty 9/10. It’s not often at all that a 10/10 comes my way, but Black Flag is as close as you can get without being absolutely perfect. I’d love to see a multiplayer touch to allow co-operation and maybe a little extra polish in some of the more hairy cut scenes.
BUT, even with that in mind, Resynced is a fantastic title and one that I’d heartily recommend. Even though it’s a game I have played to death before, the graphical overhaul next to mechanics improvements – and most of all, the binning off of Abstergo – have made this one an absolute pleasure to return to.
Elements such as the new fleet management style mean it perfectly straddles the line between hitting the notes of nostalgia (especially with those shanties) and providing a fresh experience, too.
