With thanks to the folks at Ubisoft, I’ve been taking to Immortals Fenyx Rising, to bring you our review and common-sense parent’s guide. This Grecian fairytale action-RPG has provided some thrills and spills facing off against enemies both small and large.As ever, I’ll be letting you know if Immortals Fenix Rising is any good, as well as covering the PEGI and ESRB ratings. What is Immortals Fenyx Rising About?

In Immortals, you’ll take on the role of our eponymous hero, Fenyx. Narrated by gods Zeus and Prometheus your story begins, washing gently ashore to find armies turned to stone. You’ll fight to save the (after)lives of the gods of Greek mythology. The story begins on Mount Caucasus, with some exceptional cinematic animation work from the outset.

With the narration coming from the old Grecian gods, there’s a huge amount of humour in the title. This includes a huge amount of overt references, alongside subtle nods which should tickle anybody who has spent time with Greek history.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is a third-person action-RPG which feels like a strange but well-executed mix of Zelda and Dark Souls. You’ll face everything from itty bitty minions to larger-than-life bosses. As well, of course, you’ll go up against everything in-between, including a large number of mythology-inspired beasties to conquer.

Enemies range from the quite small to the… uh… very, very large

Common-Sense Parent’s Guide

Rating: Mostly Harmless
Immortals Fenyx Rising is rated by PEGI at 12 and above, and by the ESRB at T for Teen. For both ESRB this is based mostly around language, fantasy violence and some suggestive themes. In terms of language, there hasn’t been a huge amount which I’ve found that troubling, but with anything involving Zeus you should definitely expect some innuendo which older micro-bandits might pick up on.

There are also cosmetic microtransactions in the title which could tempt little ones. While you can unlock a decent selection of skins just by playing the game, the cosmetics to provide a bit of a lure, though this can be bypassed quite easily with good family management settings

Overall, it is one I’m on the fence on for the younger micro-bandits, but It’s likely not going to be long until I let them get hands on

Accessibility

Rating: Low Barrier

There’s a lot to devote your time to here, with a huge number of collectables and a decent story, but the mechanics are simple enough to be able to dip in and out whenever you like. There are also a good selection of difficulty modes available, so if you fancy a hard hitting challenge, or just love some story, this one should satisfy.

While there are microtransactions, there are a huge number of customisation options available to unlock by simply playing the game

The Run Down

Visuals – Great: The cartoon style here has been executed really well, and I’ve not been able to find anything to mark this one down on. You also get the option to select either better resolution or better performance, depending on your preference

Audio – Great: A solid soundtrack is joined by exceptional voice acting. Again I’ve not found a single thing to mark this down on, and I’ve really enjoyed the audio here

Narrative – Great: Immortals Fenyx Rising has a cracking narrative, which has also had me literally laughing out loud multiple times. If you’re at all interested in Greek mythology, and even if not, you should love the story here.

Replay – Great: As well as the main storyline there are a huge number of collectables and skins to gather within the various game areas. If you fancy just spending some time on a side track, you’ll find plenty to be getting along with. There’s some great levelling options with various powers, stamina, character stats and more. You can also customise your character at any time, if you just fancy a bit of a change..

The Verdict

Overall the Pixel Bandits What the Zeus Level for Immortals Fenyx Rising is Grab It! . I’ve had so much fun with this one, and I’m supremely happy that this was the first title I’ve had through optimised for Series X. It’s a great looking title, with a superb storyline and plenty to do. Combat is great fun, and this is one I really don’t have any hesitation in recommending.
