Review – Gioteck TX-50

Courtesy of the folks at Gioteck I’ve been sent a pair of the new TX-50 wired gaming headset. You may have seen the live unboxing already (linked here for you just below) but here we’ll be taking a deep dive into my thoughts with the headset after a number of hours in game.

The Basics

The TX-50 is available in a couple of colour sets, with the blue and white PlayStation themed version as well as the black and green Xbox variant I’ve been sent here. While there are different console-based colours, the headset itself works via a 3.5mm jack cable meaning they are compatible with pretty much every platform, including mobile and Nintendo Switch.

While they’re not exactly on the budget end of pricing, with an RRP of £30 here in the UK, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with both incoming and outgoing sound quality. My only real concern after a little while with the hardware, is the overall size here on my head. While it’s not too heavy, and is definitely comfortable enough for me to wear on long gaming sessions, I’m not overly happy with the quite wide aesthetic.

In some ways, I know, this brings good things. The set uses 50mm high-impact drivers and it does provide great quality sound for a set at this price point. My problem with the set is simply that I know that ultimately when I wear them, I look a little silly. They would also have benefitted from some more in-line or on the earpiece audio mixing controls.

The Run Down

Audio – Great: The audio on the Gioteck TX-50s is much better than I was expecting for a £30 headset. Headset sound can often mean that the microphone doesn’t get as much love, but here it seems to be balanced really well, with quality running both ways.

The set doesn’t come with surround sound, and bass might not be enough for listening to music, but for gaming I’ve found them to be pretty on point, especially considering the lower price point.

Build – Good: The rubberised finish for these is great and overall the TX-50s feel sturdy and well put together. I would have liked more in the way of volume and mixing controls here, and their exclusion is the only reason they’ve been marked down as having to use console mixing controls is fairly awkward. All in all in terms of build quality, there’s not much else I can fault, and this is a set which feels as good as they sound

Storage – Lacking: While sturdy and coming with great sound, the TX-50s are much larger than I was expecting. While making me look a bit silly while on this also means that when off, they take up a fair whack of space. It’s not the end of the world and of course they’ll fit on any headset stand you might have, but not quite hitting full marks as it can be a little awkward

Price – Great It’s been a really nice surprise to find a relatively budget headset here which has some solid build and sound quality. You’ll find a decent experience, and even just in terms of price it’s good to not have to fork out an arm and a leg

Overall the Pixel Bandits’ verdict for the Gioteck TX-50 wired gaming headset is Grab It. If you’re in the market for a new headset and want to grab some decent audio quality without breaking the bank, this is a decent shout. The TX-50s are well made, both in terms of a build which feels robust, and the audio output.
Game sound and chat both sound great, and while they’re not up for studio recording the microphone sounds pretty decent as well.

All in all, this is a set which I’ve found comfortable over long gaming sessions, with good audio and which doesn’t come with too much weight. After spending an elongated period with the TX-50s, and especially considering their £30 price point here in the UK, I’d say they were well worth it.
