11 Bit Studios Unveil The Thaumaturge
11 Bit studios and Fool’s Theory have unveiled The Thaumaturge today. Set in 1905 Warsaw, The Thaumaturge is a story-driven RPG with some incredibly intriguing use of magic. Thanks to Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, we’re already pretty confident in our pronunciation of Thaumaturge, which is an Ancient Greek word for those who perform supernatural events.
The trailer for The Thaumaturge doesn’t give much away, but we’re told that this one is centred around both physical and metaphorical demons. The visuals of what we’ve seen so far are certainly interesting. A shadowy figure in the darkened Warsaw streets discretely summoning a demonic creature to their aid.

The title will introduce us to esoteric beings called Salutors, who hide between supernatural cracks within the real world. Thaumaturges, those able to delve deep into a person’s psyche to discover honest intentions or shameful secrets, are able to use the Salutors’ unique abilities to their whims.
Thaumaturges will manipulate the humans of Warsaw to their needs, and from what we know so far it looks like players will battle through turn-based combat, leveraging the Thaumaturge’s unique skills to their own advantage. The thaumaturge’s story unfolds within an annexed 20th century Poland, and will force players to make tough and often morally ambiguous choices as they step into a spiritual world.
The Thaumaturge is available to wishlist now, and from the trailer it seems that it will be releasing on Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store. Keep your eyes open for this one if you like a hint of the dark fantasy, as turn-based combat here would make up for a rather wet recent performance from Redemption Reapers.
