Feathered Species Pack DLC Review
With thanks to the folks at Frontier Foundry, we’ve been checking out the Feathered Species Pack DLC for Jurassic World Evolution 2. This add-on pack released recently, bringing four new creatures for burgeoning park managers to use. As a DLC-only review, the Feathered Species Pack inherits all of the audio, visual, parent’s guide and standard ratings from the base game. Here, we’ll be letting you know what’s new with this DLC, and our rating for it on its own.
The Basics – What is the Feathered Species Pack About?
The Feathered Species Pack DLC brings four new creatures to your Jurassic World Evolution 2 parks. These include Deinocheirus, Sinosauropteryx and Yutyrannus, and the flying reptile Jeholopterus.
As the name of the pack would suggest, these creatures all come with their very own feathers or fur. This makes them a great match for managers striving for more advanced or realistic parks. This is especially true if you already have creatures such as the Pyroraptor, which came with the Dominion Biosyn expansion.
Deinocheirus brings a feathered theropod from the Late Cretaceous period. As well as being a feathery fella, Deinocheirus is also the first creature in the title to have both herbivore and piscivore diets. This means you’ll have to balance between ground foliage and fishy feeders. Deinocheirus is fairly social with both sauropods and hadrosaurids, making it fairly easy to find a space within your park.
Sinosauropteryx is a teeny tiny Early Cretaceous cutie. As a small-statured creature, the Sinosauropteryx requires a similarly small pen, making it incredibly easy to fit into current parks. It also mixes well with pretty much every other dino, with the exception of the most hardened alpha predators. At just around one foot high these are a little tough to spot from ranger vehicles, and near-impossible from chopper gunners, but they are certainly a cute addition to your menagerie.

Yutyrannus is an Early Cretaceous tyrannosaur, known as the “feathered tyrant”. As with the T-Rex this one doesn’t mix too well with other dinosaurs, requiring a spot of its own within your park. That said, with some pretty lovely visuals and good pack work, it’s definitely worth giving this one its own pen. The size requirements for open space are a big consideration, as Yutyrannus does need a fair amount of different environmental elements, so bear this in mind when trying to find a place for it.
Jeholopterus is another tiny addition to the list. This one is a small bat-like insectivore from Late Jurassic Asia. As with the other flying reptiles Jeholopterus is restricted to the aviary only, but due to its size it can still be hard to find. It’s a relatively social creature which can share its environment with others quite nicely, and it makes a cute little addition to the park.
The Verdict – Is the Feathered Species Pack Worth It?

Pixel Bandits Shoot Heeeer Level for the Feathered Species Pack is 8 / 10.
This little four-creature pack brings a nice mix of dinosaurs and flying reptiles for your parks, and will let players really bump up the dino variety. There’s a good selection here to mix with your current animals, as well as to keep strictly to their own pens. Each creature also comes with decent options for altering their visuals within the gene manipulator.

The DLC is currently available at £5.99 and while it doesn’t add new gameplay features, the additional unlocking, breeding and evolving of each species does add some extra time to your game. Additionally, it’s given me the bump I need to get back in game and redesigning current parks to get them all in there.
If you do already have Jurassic World Evolution 2 it is worth looking at in order to add to the variety of creatures already available. If you’re entirely new to this park management sim it comes highly recommended. JWE 2 is certainly worth a look for park management enthusiasts and the Feathered Species DLC has come as a very welcome add on.
